How to Make a Pure Pony OC

~~~Step 1: Know Pure Pony history

     The term "Pure Pony" comes from the days before Equestria, when Windigoes reigned supreme over the skies. While most ponies left for the Promised Land, a large group of Earth ponies took refuge inside a mountain cavern. They called themselves "Pure", reasoning that they were both the original and superior species.
     The Pure Ponies brought with them the last morsels of food, seeds, and odd belongings from their homes. The Windigo Ice sealed them inside the cavern, concentrating their hatred for Pegasi and Unicorn kind. Though they were presumed dead after this point, nothing short of a miracle saved them; an underground spring, and a distant bright light.
     This bright light turned out to be a crevice full of "sun stones", mysterious gems that not only provided light, but also allowed the Pure Ponies to grow plants inside the caves. The sun stones were quickly mined and used to illuminate tunnels, homes, and gardens. Soon, the mines turned into roads and passages, and eventually an entire town. Over time, the Pure Ponies managed to hollow out the mountain and build an entirely new civilization inside.
    This civilization (literally) came crumbling down when the Elders foolishly decided to build a hanging castle. On the day the castle was scheduled to be unveiled, it was dropped from the peak's high ceiling, causing the entire mountain city to implode. A small group of Pure Ponies escaped in an airship that took them to Canterlot. While there, Princess Celestia awarded each of them with a medal of bravery. These ponies are currently roaming Equestria (some alone, some with family and friends) in search of a place to call home.
     
~~~Step 2: Know the basic facts about Pure Pony culture and attitudes

*After decades had passed by, the Pure Ponies had almost forgotten about Pegasi and Unicorns. If they were mentioned at all, it was in a nursery rhyme or fairytale for little foals. When faced with a real pegasus or unicorn, a pure pony either becomes awkward, afraid, or fascinated and insatiably curious.

*Fruits and flowers are highly valued by Pure Ponies. They prefer to eat them raw with no other ingredients added, which is why most of them think common foods (such as apple pie and sandwiches) are strange and exotic. Because they have never seen sweets before, it is easy to get a Pure Pony on a total hyper-whacko-crazy-bouncing-off-the-walls sugar high (watch out for tummy-aches!). It is also easy to convince a gullible Pure Pony that unfamiliar foods grow on trees (spaghetti, for example)

*The city they once lived in was divided into triangle-shaped step levels and terraces that led up to the top of the mountain. It had a variety of different gardens and fountains, all of which were in an aggressive ongoing competition to see which could be the most beautiful. The main hubs of activity were the markets on the higher levels and the public bath on the lowest level.

*Pure Pony houses were built with soundproofed walls (partly for safety and partly for privacy) and strategically-grown tree trunks and roots. Popular designs and decorations for these homes included tree archways, spiral-root windows, stone or wood carvings of family members, skylights, tree trunk shelves, and spiral staircases.

*Their contributions to Equestria include: Recipes, inventions (either steam-powered or nifty/practical tools), sun stones, the refined and perfected art of tree grafting, new plant species, history, literature, architectural design, and exotic pets.

*Animals that lived in the mountain city: Squirrels, rabbits, wolf-like dogs, large brown cats (often with orange or green eyes and black stripes), foxfaced bats, moles, chickens, mice, and rats.

*Pure Pony government consisted of a group of well-respected Elders who made the laws, a police force, and a debate council to settle disputes. The Elders were considered the oldest and wisest of all the ponies. From a very young age, ponies would be given a special wood carving every time they did something particularly wise, smart, brave, or kind. They would then paint the carving with their own special design in order to claim it. Once they reached an old age, they could present their wood carvings to the Elders as a sort of resume. If they had enough of each kind, they would be accepted into Elder society and given the authority to help make or change the city's laws. Some Pure Ponies kept their carvings to remember the ones who cared enough to make and give them.

*Pure Pony currency consisted of silver coins. They were simply called "coins", but to the youth, they were known as "jangles" (this term has carried over into Equestrian slang, primarily in the cities). When the Treasurekeep (bank) was closed, everypony had a day off. This was usually on a Sunday, but could happen at any time.

*The skills and virtues most valued by Pure Ponies include loyalty, patience, thrift, respect, and the ability to invent, build and repair structures, and/or grow plants with relative ease. Cooking and most arts were considered minor and unimportant, but music slowly gained in popularity as the city grew (as a result, most Pure Ponies are terrible singers and musicians).

~~~Step 3: Know your OC's Personality

     Now that you have read through all of the history and facts, what does all of this say about your character? Is he or she awkward? Shy? Homesick? Depressed? Happy to be free, maybe even excited about living in a new place? How is he or she adjusting?

     What is your pony's favourite... food? Type of music? Colour? Animal? Anything? How do their interests differ from the days before they knew of Equestria?

     How do they act around ponies of a different species? Do they gravitate towards a particular species, or is there one particular pony or ponies whom they dislike or fear?

~~~Step 4: What does a Pure Pony look like?
     Pure Ponies are limited to only a few colours, which are listed below:
*Manes: Green, teal, brown, white, yellow, black, grey, orange.
*Coats: Brown, green, white, grey, black.
     If their coat is dark, their mane will be a lighter hue, and vice versa.
*Eyes: Green, blue, brown, grey, pink, yellow, orange.
     Also note that Pure Pony colours are not very saturated, and are often dull or dingy in comparison to other Equestrians. Their Cutie Marks, however, can be any colour and saturation (within reason), but are generally three colours or less.

     All Pure Pony mares have pointed "mole noses", and sometimes freckles. They love to wear flowers in their manes and tails as a symbol of femininity and romance. Stallions are often large and brawny, but can also be thin and/or toned.

     Pure Ponies find clothing and other types of attire strange, and typically don't wear anything. However, there are some cases where mares find dresses and such amazing and go nuts over them, obsessing over finding the right style.

~~~Step 5: What can my pony do? Also, what should I name him/her?
     
     Pure Ponies are PHENOMENAL farmers, gardeners, mechanics, and architects. Their special talents and Cutie Marks typically revolve around one particular plant (for mares, it's usually a flower) or a tool they're good at using.
     Some examples of Pure Pony names include: Clockwork Clover, Pearrow, Potato Peeler, Cabbage Kicker, Buttercup, Apple Archway, Wrench Clench, Fern, Green Harvest, Marigold, Ticktock Tansy, Steam Rush, Odd Cog. (You are free to use any of these names, provided they are not already taken!)

     Special Pure Pony abilities: An extraordinary knack for plant and/or animal care, the ability to fully understand what one type of creature communicates to them (usually a pet and/or one particular species of animal he or she spends a lot of time with), and in rare cases, superior night vision.
